Harrison, Penn. - The former pastor at Grace United Methodist Church in the Natrona Heights section of Harrison was sentenced yesterday to 13 months in prison on tax fraud charges in connection with money he is accused of stealing from a longtime church member.
The Rev. Jack F. Emerick, who resigned in 2001 over allegations that he had molested a boy and two men in the 1970s and 1980s, admitted in May that he had falsified his tax returns for 2001 and 2002.
He failed to report income related to money he reportedly stole from a church member who had made Grace United Methodist the beneficiary of his estate.
Prosecutors said Emerick took almost all of the money from the estate by falsely claiming the member owed him money. He also falsified documents to conceal his theft and filed false estate tax returns that under-reported the value of the estate.
