Falling rocks hurt three at Wal-Mart
HAZARD, Ky. - A wayward blast at a construction site Wednesday sent several rocks through the roof of a nearby Wal-Mart store, injuring three people.
Hazard police said 14 rocks - including one that was about a foot in diameter - struck the Wal-Mart roof and seven crashed through it. One rock left a hole inside the roof that was about three feet in diameter, police Sgt. Joe Engle said. Some of the rocks fell near the checkout lanes and others fell in the hardware department, he said.
The three people suffered minor injuries and were treated at Hazard Regional Medical Center and released, spokeswoman Terry Feltner said.
Developer Roy Campbell said LaFollette, Tenn.-based American Blasting Company was blasting at a site being developed for a Perry County animal shelter.
