Parochial school teacher gets over 12 years for child porn
Houston - A former parochial school teacher and coach will serve more than a dozen years in federal prison and then spend the rest of his life on probation for receipt and possession of child pornography, a judge ruled Thursday.
Christopher Williams, 33, pleaded guilty to those crimes in May. He also faces Texas state charges of sexual abuse of children.
Williams was a teacher and athletic director at Holy Spirit Episcopal School in Houston from 2000 through 2003, when he left Texas to work at a school in Las Vegas. But the Houston Police Department was investigating allegations that he had sexually abused male students at the Houston school.
In December 2003, Texas charges of sexual assault of children were filed against Williams. The same month, Las Vegas FBI agents searched his home and found his computers contained more than 1,000 child pornography images. Williams was arrested in January 2004.
U.S. District Judge Keith Ellison ruled Thursday that Williams will serve 12 years and six months in prison, followed by a life term of probation. Upon his release he also will have to register as a sex offender, will be barred from contact with children under 18, and will be prohibited from using a computer without court permission.
