Prison Officer Sentenced For Assault
Thanks to YH.
Denver - A former teacher and basketball coach accused of sexually assaulting two female players pleaded guilty Tuesday to one count of sexual assault on a child.
Craig DeBiase, 43, pleaded guilty as part of a plea bargain in which prosecutors dismissed six other counts of sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust and as a pattern of conduct.
DeBiase was a coach at Bishop Machebeuf High School in Denver where he taught English and served as the school's athletic director and basketball coach.
Prosecutors alleged that DeBiase sexually assaulted the teen between August and October 2000. She told police she had sex with DeBiase multiple times during that period. She said they became close after he coached her summer basketball team.
The charges involve sexual assaults on a 16-year-old girl in 1999 and a 17-year-old girl between August and October 2000.
DeBiase faces a sentence of two years to life in prison when he is sentenced Dec. 20.
Prosecutors said the resolution of the case spares the victims from having to testify at a trial.
