Minister charged for second time with forgery
STATESBORO, Ga. - A Statesboro minister was charged with forging checks for the second time in about a year, police said.
Evidence of a forged check passed at a local bank led police to charge the Reverend Johnny Lewis Jr. with first degree forgery, authorities said.
The reverend was already on probation for similar charges, police records show.
In September 2004, he was charged with first degree forgery, theft by deception and the printing of fictitious checks, which he used in the name of Whitesville Full Gospel Baptist Church, said Bulloch County Chief Deputy Gene McDaniel.
